Physiotherapy is
a professional, scientific and holistic therapeutic method focusing
on the restoration of normal function and movement, as well as minimising
dysfunction and maximising potential after injury or disease. It uses
physical means to assess, treat and manage musculoskeletal problems.
Physiotherapy works by assisting the body’s own natural healing
processes without the use of medications.
A comprehensive assessment is performed to identify the underlying causative
factors and form a diagnosis, after which the appropriate injury management
approach is selected in agreement with the client to meet the specific
needs of each individual.
Conditions commonly treated include:
• Back & Neck Pain
• Chronic Pain
• Headaches
• Joint and Ligament Injuries
• Osteoarthritis
• Osteoporosis
• Overuse Syndromes
• Pre and Post Surgical Rehabilitation
• Pre and Post Natal Problems
• Postural Problems and Pain
• Sciatica
• Sprains and Strains
• Sports Injuries
• Tennis Elbow
• Whiplash
• Work Related Injuries or Pain
After receiving a First Class BSc Honours Degree in Physiotherapy from
the University of East London in 1999, Carole worked as a Chartered
Physiotherapist in the NHS for 6 years, initially at University College
Hospitals, then at the Royal Free Hospital in North-West London, where
she gained experience in the assessment and treatment of a wide variety
of conditions. In her last two years at the Royal Free Hospital, she
specialised in the management of patients with spinal conditions referred
from the back clinic. She also ran the Physiotherapy service for osteoporosis
and set up a research project on the long-term effects of exercise on
postmenopausal women with severe osteoporosis.
Carole is also a
Pilates Foundation Matwork & Studio teacher, and holds a First Class
BSc Honours Degree in Sports Sciences.
Carole uses a combination
of manual techniques (mobilizations, manipulations, massage) and acupuncture
to help with pain relief, and rehabilitation exercises to promote recovery.
Prevention is also very important and time is spent teaching her clients
how to avoid any recurrence of their problem.
Thanks to her extensive Physiotherapy, Pilates teacher and Sports Science
experience, Carole’s therapeutic philosophy is a combined Physiotherapy
and Pilates approach to rehabilitation, with a particular interest in
the prevention and management of spinal complaints and sports injuries.
This integration of Pilates and Physiotherapy facilitates the transition
from therapy to exercise for health and well being. She therefore works
very closely with the Pilates teachers at Pilates Off The Square.
