Course
Details
The Bridging Course
is designed to "bridge" the gap for certified Pilates Matwork teachers
to Pilates studio work.
The Bridging course
targets Matwork teachers who have successfully completed a Pilates foundation
UK Matwork training. Applicants trained by other bodies are welcome
to apply, as long as they comply with the pre-requisitesThe choice will
be made on an individual basis. We will be looking at experience and
motivation.
After completion
of the Bridging Course all students will be fully qualified Pilates
teachers certified and recognised by the Pilates Foundation UK.
Prerequisites:
- Certified Matwork
teacher who has studied Pilates Matwork for a minimum of one year
- First Aid certificate
- Sound knowledge
of Anatomy and Physiology
- A minimum of
eight months teaching experience
- The applicant
needs to have taken a minimum of six months studio classes prior to
starting the course.
- Each applicant
will need to submit a C.V. and a letter of motivation. The final selection
takes place on the basis of an interview and a studio class.
Maximum
intake of students per annum:
We take in a small
group of students in order to guarantee you enough space and time to complete
your apprenticeship.
Duration
of course:
The Bridging Course
will run annually from January till December. The apprenticeship will
take place over seven months, from May till December. Some students may
be advised to extend their apprenticeship for six months, which would
mean the final exam was the following June.
Course
Schedule:
- Friday afternoon
3 till 6pm lectures or study group.
- One morning lecture
a week from mid February till July.
- Two individual
studio classes a week for ten months.
- A minimum of
400 hours teaching practice.
- Three hours private
tuition in the studio in the last three months.
- Saturday morning
and afternoon are available for self-practise, case studies and study
groups

Practical lectures:
- 21 hours reformer
repertoire
- 18 hours Cadillac
repertoire
- 9 hours Wundachair
repertoire
- 4 hours auxiliary
equipment
- 6 hours Barrel
repertoire
Theory/ practical
lectures:
- 5 hours on back
injuries (divided into two sessions)
- 3 hours: Neural
tension and disorders
- 4 hours: Lower
extremities (Hip, knee, ankle and foot)
- 3 hours: Upper
extremities (Shoulder and wrist)
- 3 hours: Scoliosis,
Kyphosis and Lordosis
- 2 hours: working
with osteoporosis and menopause in general
- 3 hours: working
with pregnancy in the studio
- 4 to 6 hours
anatomy revision
- A minimum of
9 hours theory and repertoire revision
Written work
and examination:
- Two case studies:
one remedial and one general fitness client.
- Supervision and
guidance with written work.
- Three hour written
examination.
- One and a half
hour practical examination
Course
Dates:
Bridging course will
run annually from the January till December.
Exam
Date:
Exams will take place
in December given that all requirements are fulfilled and the student
is ready. Alternatively the student can defer to June and remain an apprentice.

- 96 hours Lectures/
workshop

hours teaching practice, out of which 200 supervised
- Minimum of 120
hours studio classes (two 90 minute classes a week)
- Minimum of 200
self practice and study hours
Price:
£4,000
The course fee includes
all lectures, classes, training manuals and hand-outs. The course fee
excludes Pilates foundation student membership, student insurance, examination
fees and studio classes after December. In case students defer their exam
till June they need to pay for their own studio classes, but apprenticeship
and exam guidance is free of charge.
